Two Wise County places are among the most recent additions to the Virginia Landmarks Register, the state’s official list of properties important to its history.

At its quarterly meeting, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources approved the St. Paul Historic District and Sunnydale Farm near Pound (pictured below) for listing on the register, an honor that includes nomination for the National Register of Historic Places.

Mike Pulice, the architectural historian for DHR’s western regional office, said the sites are representative of two different aspects of Wise County’s history: a family homestead in the case of Sunnydale and the development of towns around the coal industry in the case of St. Paul.
