The legend of Granny Dollar, part 1 of 2

There is no doubt that Nancy Emmaline Callahan Dollar, who came to be known as “Granny Dollar,” was what is known as a character.

For centuries, Alabamians have recognized the gourd martin house for its usefulness and compelling aesthetic qualities.

Huntsville, Alabama-born actress Tallulah Bankhead (1902-1968) was a staunch Democrat and campaigned for Harry Truman’s reelection in 1948.

“Cornbread and Beans for Breakfast,” published 1995, portrays the Depression era scene from James Milton Hanna’s childhood in Cherokee, AL.
