A Civil War treasure returned

On May 12, 1909 the 4th Ohio Cavalry Assn returned the Rifle Scouts Civil War battle flag to Alabama at the Elk’s Theater in Huntsville.

I was always told that the large hollow tree in the the ‘Sheep Hole’ was where Uncle George hid after his escape from the Home Guard.

“If Georgia doesn’t vote to immediately secede from the Union, Dade County will secede from Georgia & become The Independent State of Dade!”

The effort anti-secession Virginians, dubbed Unionists by the press, played in trying to save the nation from civil war is rarely told.

October 24, 2014 will see the grand opening of a new permanent exhibit at the Morgan County Archives: The Civil War in Morgan County, AL.
