The most serious difficulty over the TN/VA stateline issue, one which threatened bloodshed, was what’s been termed the “The Water-Works War.”

At Easter, kids would hide eggs. Go around to hen nests and get a egg or two every day and hide them so you’d have some for Easter.

The Harlan County gun thugs in reality got nothing for their efforts to drive out the UMWA union. Most of them died violent deaths.
