Old cookbooks are filled with history

In addition to recipes, a cookbook can dish up a nice serving of history. Especially an 1890 book passed down from mother to daughter.

The Battle of Blair Mountain. Over 500 “rednecks” were charged with treason, murder, & conspiracy to commit murder.

We open today’s show with WV evangelist John William Harris’s account of his 1st time at a summer revival in 1897. Horse thieves were there.

Until Earl Shaffer actually did it, experts believed that a hike of the entire Appalachian Trail in one continuous trip was impossible.

Two other families came into the neighborhood. These got into trouble with each other; some neighbors took part with one, some with the other.
