Lost Paradise, Now Lindytown: Appalachia Fades to Black

Appalachia has always had a pull for its dispersed children, a pull I’ve felt my whole life. It has always been a land of nostalgia and loss.

The Virginia Department of Historic Resources approved the St. Paul Historic District and Sunnydale Farm near Pound for listing.

Honored by the Library of Congress, chosen to participate in the Bicentennial Local Legacies Project, her works are in the Smithsonian.

The 6,300-square-foot visitor center and history museum, located two miles north of Cherokee, North Carolina, opened April 1 to the public.

Roger Cooper is a link to the past for what he calls Big Sandy River style fiddling. He says, “I’ve never heard anybody else call it that.”
