Ida Prather Cox, vaudeville performer, pioneering blues singer. Founded female blues genre along with Gertrude “Ma” Rainey & Bessie Smith.

When Bessie Smith sang the blues she meant it. Smith (1894-1937) was the greatest and most influential classic blues singer of the 1920s.

W.C. Handy was quick to acknowledge that he did not invent the blues, but merely transcribed them and presented them to a worldwide audience.

Fish was attending a film festival in Florence, AL in February of 2007 when she first met W.C. Handy, the acknowledged Father of the Blues.
