Moses Cone saw that southern mills received too little because they depended chiefly on selling yarns and cheaper fabrics.

Miss Lucy, a Clifton Mill millworker’s wife, describes domestic life in Clifton Mill Village to a SC Writers’ Project writer in 1938.

George A. Meyers was a founder of the Congress of Industrial Organizations. His 1930s drives brought millions into the labor movement.

For the last three or four years, or until the middle of 1920, the cotton mills passed through a very prosperous period.

The textile industry grew quickly after 1880, and SC was one of the leading textile-producing states nationally for the next 40 years.
