The true pork pie hat

The fabled phoenix, that marvelous bird endowed with the power to rise from its own ashes, finds a match in the pork pie hat.

It protected the dress underneath, served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children’s tears.

Cherokee County Historical Museum aims to make the people in the past alive to those in the present with this exhibit on local fashions.
