A German family settles in Walhalla

The Keil Farm symbolizes the role that a German immigrant family played in the settlement & development of Walhalla and Oconee County in SC.

Family tradition says that Ganaway Russell paid for the property in 1867 with a fortune he made driving cattle to feed California gold miners.

Captain Hager owned extensive tracts of land in the present Washington County, Md. In 1762 he laid out a town, which he named Elizabeth Town.

Geatz’s Restaurant in Cumberland MD has been in the family since 1880, making it the oldest family owned place of its kind in MD.
