An Old Time Appalachian Burial

In the Appalachian Mountains, the death of a community member was a communal affair. Neighbors would come together to assist with preparations, such as washing the body, setting up a cooling board, and digging the grave. After the burial, friends and family would gather at the deceased’s home to support the grieving family.
