The South Carolina man who put the electric in “The Electric City”

Anderson, SC was the first city in the United States to have a continuous supply of electric power thanks to native son William C. Whitner.

It was actually Cyrus’ father, Robert Hall McCormick, whose genius as a simple inventor led to the family’s riches and renown.

In 1948 Buckminster Fuller aimed to produce a geodesic dome with a forty-eight foot diameter at Black Mountain College.

WV entrepreneur Donald F. Duncan (1892-1971) had never heard of the yo-yo until 1928, when he encountered Pedro Flores in California.

Construction toys of the early 20th century helped kids learn by exercising what we now think of as “spatial intelligence.”
