Saving Colonel Charles Young’s Historic Birthplace in Mays Lick, KY

KY Heritage Council seeks to preserve the birthplace of Col Charles Young, the 3rd African American to graduate from West Point.

There is a story about a bathtub ghost who saves a man’s life; a tale about a shadow boy helping a young girl find her way home in a storm.

The 1st Cleudis Robbins Memorial Storytelling Contest, in Bell County, KY, drew 100 schoolchildren, who told ghost stories & adventure tales.

Tom Dotson, descendant of both Hatfields & McCoys, takes issue with historical accuracy of Dean King’s research in King’s book ‘The Feud.’

The contest has been established by the family of Cleudis Robbins to celebrate both his life and the Appalachian storytelling tradition.
