Book Review: ‘The Burying Man’

This historical novel is set Depression-era Harlan, KY, where lethal labor strife leads to the county’s desperate coal mine wars.

The casket Octavia had been buried in had not been airtight. She had awoken from her sleep to find herself trapped beneath the ground.

While all documented versions of the story are very different, they all claim the town was named after the dish — rabbit hash.

Unable to come up with a name he liked for his new drink, Wainscott asked for ideas at the Clark County Fair. The winning entry stuck!

I cannot say for certain that they were love interests, but in one photo from May of 1926, the two are sitting very close together.
