He was bitten by a Rattler, and they sent for Ira

He would boil roots + leaves, and would strain away the particles. This was diluted with whiskey, and given to the victim to drink.

Drinking a quart of whiskey neutralizes the poison without intoxicating the patient

It is likewise commonly reported that spirits of turpentine applied plentifully to the wound will draw out the poison and effect a cure.
