The Chain Gang and The Oconee County Cage

It wasn’t possible to return prisoners doing work in the most distant parts of Oconee County to the county jail at Walhalla every night.

A prolific composer, South Carolinian Lily Strickland published 395 musical works for popular, church, and children’s performances.

He would boil roots + leaves, and would strain away the particles. This was diluted with whiskey, and given to the victim to drink.

Walter M. Gibson lived near Sandy Springs, SC. He was an adventurer, and it is said was once prime minister of the Sandwich Islands.

Southern Appalachian farms suffered from poor soil conditions and erosion as a result of practices that maximized the short-term potential.
