Time to gather the crops against the coming winter

In bygone days, as the sun shone across sere fields of fall, serious preparation for winter’s coming lean, mean times commenced.

When Louise Smith started racing cars, most girls weren’t even allowed to drive. Louise fearlessly paved the way and became a NASCAR legend.

Sept. 6, 1934: 7 workers shot & killed, 30 others wounded, at Chiquola Mill in Honea Path, SC. The incident shaped the town’s history.

Ann Johnson believed she deserved more from life than to work in a general store owned by her husband, Cornelius, & live in the backwoods.

I cannot say for certain that they were love interests, but in one photo from May of 1926, the two are sitting very close together.
