Fonta Flora: Blue Ridge Atlantis

By 1913, word of the impending dam & displacements had spread. With progress encroaching, they uprooted their lives & moved from Fonta Flora.

By February 24, 1933, 130 of the 3,000 men working on the Hawks Nest Tunnel at Alloy had already died from silicosis.

On May 18, 1933 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Tennessee Valley Authority Act, creating the TVA.

Before the days of TVA & large power companies, electricity was supplied to rural areas by such pioneering men as Arthur Abernathy Miller.

It probably should’ve been named William Christian Lake, considering the herculean efforts of Pulaski County, VA to preserve his legacy.
