He placed the tiny baby in a cigar box and walked to the Godfreys

Fred Bennett was a fireman on the logging train that ran through Curtin, WV. Doc Godfrey was the engineer on the same train. They shared a terrible tragedy in 1919.

Can you imagine how it felt to be full of milk and have no child to suckle?

The whole family was sick with whooping cough, and Grandma tried valiantly to keep the baby from getting it, but with no vaccine then, it was a losing battle.
